This is the wrong Archibald Douglas. The Tyneman was Archibald Douglas, 4th Earl of Douglas, who despite being the most powerful magnate in Scotland at the time, never won a major battle and indeed lost an eye, testicle and eventually his life in various battles! Will change this soon, if there is no objection?

I think there is a stalemate here! Brown and Maxwell for the Guardian, and Godscroft and Fraser in his fairly exhaustive work "The Douglas Book" for the 4th Earl. (See here- [1]) Can't seem to find any other reference to the name. It certainly seems an apt epithet for the 4th Earl and perhaps was used by both, who knows?
