Serious problem with sources

An article used to be redirecting to Abkhazians (this is how these people call themselves, Abkhaz: Аԥсуаа, romanized: Apsuaа, see [a] note in Abkhazians). A single-article editor Abrolek ( talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) creates a new article. Let's go through the sources. A collection of articles quoted here ( [1]) everywhere uses "apsua" to designate modern Abkhazians, for example:

  • "modern Abkhaz (Apsua) ethnos" (p. 20)
  • "Gradually, the term “Abkhazian” for the native residents was used in regard of this ethnic group (Putkaradze, 2005, p.140-141), though their original name remained “Apsua”" (p. 40)

Therefore, there appears to be unanimity regarding the name Apsua: the Abkhazians themselves as well as Georgians call these people both Apsua and Abkhazians. The actual quoted article from the collection is a curious case:

  • Gamakharia's article, quoted as p. 40 is actually pp. 28-39 and does not contain the word "apsua". Quote from page 40 is offered above and directly contradicts the article text.

Summing up, I see no reason for the Apsua not to redirect to Abkhazians. No one seems to argue with the simple fact that Apsua and modern Abkhazians are the same people. Even the historians in Georgia that are arguing that historically Abkhazia was populated by ethically different proto-Georgians do not dispute this identity.

I am therefore returning the redirect to Abkhazians. Викидим ( talk) 21:23, 10 March 2024 (UTC) reply

@ 45.200.151.62: Dear anonymous colleague, please do not remove active comments from the talk page. The sources that were quoted confirm that Apsua is another name for Abkhazians: the very first quote that was listed contained "Abkhazian (Apsua)" twice (!). Therefore, the only reasonable state of this page is a redirect. Викидим ( talk) 04:03, 10 May 2024 (UTC) reply
