I've added what I considered useful or valuable information on this subject from the subsection "Appalachia" in the Old-time music article in Wikipedia. Information that I found important, relevant to Appalachian Music from that page , along with their citations, have been transferred with minimum changes possible. I'd like to ask anyone to review, and any necessary changes or correction would be appreciated. 218.150.66.247 ( talk) 05:00, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
I edited "Due to fears of plagiarism and imitation of other collectors active in the region at the time, most notably Harvard English professor Francis James Child, Niles waited until 1960 to publish his first 110 in The Ballad Book of John Jacob Niles" to remove the reference to Child : Niles was very likely not afraid of Child stealing his ballads, because FJC had died when he was an infant (1896). Indeed, Niles intended to "follow Francis James Child's lead" in his own ethnomuscological work, with more emphasis on the ethnography aspect than Child. (The Ballad Book of John Jacob Niles, xxi).

Edit of over statement of non Scots Irish influence, focusing on use of instrument as major reason. Instruments are not musical influence. 2603:6011:F400:DAC:4492:FE1D:3BB1:95A6 ( talk) 14:38, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
