I saw Andy in pro-health care law commercials in NC today and recently. It sounds like he's had a stroke, but I haven't heard anything about it, and it's not listed here. Anyone know what's up? Kochamanita ( talk) 23:22, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Goober in The Andy Griffith Show was mostly called Goober Beasely. I believe the Pyle surname was only for a couple episodes.
Absolutely WRONG. Goober was Goober Pyle Gomer's cousin.
Well, no, not ABSOLUTELY wrong. Goober was, for most of the series, called Goober Pyle and was Gomer's cousin. But in at least one episode, Andy introduced Goober to another character as Goober Beasley, as documented on page 132 of "The Andy Griffith Show Book" by Ken Beck and Jim Clark. I remember the episode myself, because I was struck by Andy saying that last name. I'll see if I can dig up the specific episode in which it happened. But it DID happen. Merriam-Webster online doesn't appear to have it. Don't know if you consider them serious.
The section under the Andy Griffith show on this page is ridiculous...I can't understand what Ron Howard is supposed to be saying enough to edit it. For example:
""I was always grateful for the experience and the atmosphere that was created, because it was the best of all possible for coming environments, particularly for a kid growing up.""
There's just no way that's a direct quote from an American actor with half a brain. Consider also:
""It would give a chance to absolutely go highly on top, and do something different and I respect that. Although, very embarrassing to be 14-years-old and crying to effect, it hit me hard, when it finally ended." The last thing that Howard said about one of Griffith's first unpopular TV series in the 1970s, which included The Headmaster, he said, "I think they were 249 Andy Griffith episodes, well, that's a lot of seeing Andy as 1 character." Andrew Jr.’s death in 1996, drew Griffith & Howard real closer, as Howard received word as he broke down weeping. He was also one of the people to be concerned about his heart condition and surgery in 2000, and today, he still keeps Griffith in touch.""
Absolutely go highly on top? It really sounds like someone wrote this whose first language was not English, or that they copied and pasted from translation software or something. Just wanted to signal this as a poorly-written article; didn't know how to verify Ron's supposed statements enough to edit them.
some of this section seems a little fluffy and trite, such as "To this day, Andy still calls Ron by his childhood nickname, "Ronny." Howard doesn't seem to mind one bit." Jkellymc ( talk) 19:42, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Ehm, I shudder to mention this but IMHO, the language, grammar, and style of several portions of this article, especially the section on Matlock, could do with some serious improvements. I don't think the citation needed tag is necessary just because another editor and ibdb.com has it as different dates. A quick google search shows it is 1926 in many reliable sources. Thank you. -- Omarcheeseboro ( talk) 16:46, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
Griffith was born in 1926, making him a member of the World War II generation. He would have been eligible for the draft in 1944. Was he classified as 4-F, or otherwise exempt? For an article about someone born in that era, it's a major omission. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.155.82.245 ( talk) 16:24, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
I remember watching a television spoof, similar to what Candid Camera did, where a street was being renamed after Griffith, and he showed up for the honors, only to be picketed by a (fabricated) crowd of angry individuals who didn't want the name changed, but I can't find any mention of it through Google. Does anyone remember what show/episode that was, and would you be willing to add it? Or am I totally off my rocker and that particular episode featured someone else? The last two sentences of the section (about the death certificate), which were just added, are poorly written and too wordy. The two mentions of the death certificate are totally unnecessary. All that needs to be done is to simply merge the cause of death (heart attack) and burial site (Griffith Family Cemetery) into the original text, along with the new citation to the AP/Yahoo article. Just delete the last two sentences completely. My suggested edit is below.
Current: On July 3, 2012, Griffith died at his home on Roanoke Island in Dare County, North Carolina, following an undisclosed illness.[46] He was 86. He was buried on the island within five hours of his death.[47][48][49] The Death Certificate filed indicated he had passed away from the effects of a heart attack in a 24 hour period before his death. The Death Certificate also stated that he would be laid to rest at the Griffith Family Cemetery in Manteo.[50]

Evidence being referencing the nearby town of "Mount Pilot" which is directly from the actual town close to Mount Airy called Pilot Mountain. Andy said so himself in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leL-Cf8v_ms @22:16 also @22:53 references Bannertown being in an episode which is a town located in the city of Mt. Since I've templated the Associations section with a number of tags, I figured I should open a corresponding section here. A large amount of text has been added, mostly by Pizzamaniac16, some of which I have previously removed or reverted. The vast majority of it lacks sources and much of the material seems trivial and only tangentially relevant to Griffith, and I'd argue is written in a highly unencyclopedic tone; more importantly, the vast majority of it is unsourced. The Don Knotts section seems pretty solid, but most of the other material probably needs to go. Grandpallama ( talk) 18:19, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
