Essentially, a district court judge has agreed with the argument the 1872 Amnesty Act is prospective in nature as well and has repealed Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. It is unclear whether there will be an appeal as of current.

Should this article also discuss the Amnesty Act of 1898 "which removed the disabilities of the approximately 750 remaining former Confederate officeholders who had been subject to Section 3 disqualification".
