The Arabic surname is actually "Abu al-Maati", which looks like this: أبو المعاطي The full name on his (expired) Canadian passport is Amro Badr Abouelmaati.
I wonder about this "pilot" claim. I know it's the official story, but I've never seen a pilot with Coke-bottle glasses before.

I have tagged the lead section as being too long. The readable prose for this article only warrants two paragraphs, not the four it presently has. - Cameron Dewe ( talk) 00:41, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
A portion of this article is about the experiences of el-Maati's brother. This may be OFFTOPIC as his brother, Ahmad El-Maati, is separately notable. To avoid this article being a COATRACK the brother's experiences should be covered in his own article and only the parts of the brother's story that relates to Amer el-Maati, such as what they both did together or what was said by his brother during questioning should be covered in this article. - Cameron Dewe ( talk) 00:54, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
