I noticed that there was a discrepancy between the date provided for the awarding of the
Legion of Honour award (
Knight rank), by the two supporting references that I found. The original source I found, albeit not a primary source, indicated that the date on which
Alfred Agache was awarded his
Knight in
france's
Legion of Honour was 1895.
[1] When I checked the Léonore Database, in France’s National Archives, the original certificates indicate the date of conferral for the
Knight rank was 1899, however, additionally they also go on to indicate that
Alfred Agache received a further promotion to an Officer rank on 1910.
[2] Naturally, I took the Lénoure Database quoted year, as it was a more detailed primary source, compared to the Ary Jan Art Gallery, which is a reputable but second-hand source.
I am starting this discussion thread here to alert everyone to the discrepancy, and the possible confusion that might result from the apparent inconsistency. I would love to hear feedback on what people think about this, and the approach that I took.
