The zaitsev variation is not named after Alexander Zaitsev. He does not play this variation. Zaitsev variation is based on C92 of the Ruy Lopez closed opening. Alexander very rarely plays Ruy Lopez.
Igor Zaitsev pioneered the move 9... bb7 and uses it very frequently with the Ruy Lopez closed which is one of his favorite openings.
