This article is about Alberni Channel, a canal in Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. It's about a place that exists and appears at the maps, just that I haven't found any source to prove it yet. But if you search at www.google.com, you can find it "informal" proves of its existence. Onofre Bouvila 04:03, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
Move/rename - the title needs capitalization, to a capital-C "Alberni Canal", to Wiki standard. This is the proper name of the inlet, and appears on most maps I've seen that way; it's a post-Spanish legacy, like a few others (Burrard Inlet was Burrard's Canal early on...), ditto Portland Canal though not named for a Spaniard; Dean Channel vs Gardner Canal come to mind. But anyway, this is fine as part of a series on significant inlets and sounds on the British Columbia Coast (q.v.) and could include things on its ecology, other ecological issues, the Sarita tsunami (c.1700 I think), oceanography, industry, other communities than Port Alberni and Sarita (there's only a few); I guess Bamfield's more Barclay Sound (which for BC project people I should suggest would make a great FA proposal/project, ditto with Clayoquot Sound; not that any of us have time....). I thought about including a dash of First Nations history, concerning hostilities between the Tseshaht and Pacheedaht, and I think the Ucluelets were Wickanninish's people (if there's not an article on him yet that's one for the "BC aboriginal articles to-do list"); this is ultimately a geographic article so all history should just be basic. Not bad for a starter; I'll be removing the commeric\\cial link, placed innocently enough by Onofre Bouvila; the RD and town or IR/FN websites might be better, maybe a googlemap satshot (gonna get one for the Okanagan Mountain Fire that's pretty cool...) and any MDS studies (MoE). Whoops, I just made an edit to the name change info... but now I realize what's really needed is a page move/rename. Ah well, should probably just do it. Pfly ( talk) 04:21, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Re Bobanny's addition of the 1931 letter...interesting. The same logic wasn't applied to the Portland Canal, though Anyox was a going concern (but not a port for other aras, as P.A. could be for nearby Mid-Island towns. The Gardner Canal, into Kitimat/Terrace, was not yet a going concern as a shipping lane and wouldn't be until Kitimat was built. Washington's Hood Canal was similarly spared a similar name change.
