Hello, I put the "very long" tag on the article. I propose splitting off discussion of New York City into a new page called "New York City Housing Crisis." This would match up with San Francisco housing shortage. Off course, this is open to discussion. Thanks. Seahawk01 ( talk) 03:35, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
The article provides accurate and complete information about a broad series of elements in affordable housing, yet focuses in economic or political views, barely including information about environmental sustainability, about the design and organizational elements of construction, and lacks examples of existing successful projects. The issue of affordable housing relates to the government responsibility to ensure safety and basic needs to all, but it also has a more profound and human approach that deals with how context can significantly influence the development of individuals. I would like to add a section of how sustainability is being applied to improve the quality of these projects, to add information about the basic design proposals that rule this typology and finally to provide a list of global projects that have been implemented (considering projects that deal with different types of inhabitants: migrants, indigenous communities, low-income citizens, etc.). Considering how certain design decisions affect quality of life is key to the creation of successful projects and understanding the resilience that these projects offer can also allow for a better adaptation or response to future conditions: social, environmental or cultural.

In the section "Affordable housing and public policy" there is this paragraph, which I don't understand:
Ann Owen wonders if the housing market helped reduced poverty concentration in the National longitudinal data between the years of 1977–2008 with the concentration of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the United States. Data information is to compare or intertwine with the differences of national housing subsidies, the entry, exit, and enhancement of low-income housing.
By what mechanism could "the housing market" help reduce poverty concentration? And what does the second sentence mean? Fusiongate ( talk) —Preceding undated comment added 04:02, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi all,
Might we considering updating the page's primary photo? The tower-block style of affordable housing is far from the norm at this point. Many countries including the United States, Canada, and France are attempting to remove these tower-block developments and replace them with lower-rise developments. The picture is not representative of modern public housing for much of the world. Furthermore, this photo represents some older public housing projects but the article discusses several kinds of affordable housing (included in market-rate such as inclusionary zoning, naturally occurring affordable housing, affordable market-rate units, etc.).
I feel the photo does not represent affordable housing today and perpetuates the stereotype that affordable housing is large, out-of-place, and "against neighborhood character".
Please let me know your thoughts! Joiedevivre123321 ( talk) — Preceding undated comment added 20:53, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

The following are citations that need replacement:
Under the contents of Economics, there is a section called inequality and housing, which talks about that the income inequality leads to the need of affordable housing, which brings burden to the local economics and further impacts long-term economics. Citations should be added to the last few sentences of this section, which should be from reliable sources that explain the relationship between affordable housing and income inequality that brings negative impacts toward the economics. Moreover, if it is possible some statistical evidence should be added, which can make the readers understand the impact more clearly while they want to know information about affordable housing. Lastly, several sections under economics need more citations, which the editor did not put any citations while listing the factors.
Under the content of affordable housing by country, the editor added the different actions of countries planing and building affordable housing. Some pictures can be added to let the readers see how the affordable housing differ by countries.
Under the content of Notable people, the editor can provide a short summary of “Homes for America”, which briefly explain what does it. The editor can do this by researching on reliable contents regarding “Homes for America”, and provide neutral facts about it. Since “Homes for America” is something related to the affordable housing, it should be noted in this Wikipedia page. Moreover, readers would able to see more information about notable people and what have they done.
Lastly, citations should be added for sections: “Differing parameters and limitations in approaches”, “Market-based approaches”, “Government restriction on affordable housing”.

I think the section on Home values should be developed some more, someone skimming and going straight to the Home Value it seems like the section is incomplete.
Currently it is: "According to a 2022 study, LIHTC projects in the United States increase land value in surrounding neighborhoods."
However in this section the study's reasoning isn't explained or summarized at all.
I think further explanation and reading into the study is needed to further develop a solid conclusion as a possible what or why there is an increase to the land value. The cited 2022 study mentioned in the Home values section titled: "Effects of concentrated LIHTC development on surrounding house prices" by Richard Voith mentions in it's abstract that "This paper examines the effects of introducing additional LIHTC developments in urban neighborhoods to determine whether the concentration of these affordable housing properties negatively affects local home values. " Also found within the abstract is the acknowledgement that "While numerous studies have examined the spillover effects of these properties on local property values," meaning that Voith's study should be considered alongside other sources that look at the spillover effects of these properties on other local property values.

I would like to add to this Wikipedia article on affordable housing. Housing is a complex commodity which has both macro- and microeconomic consequences. I’m interested in reporting on the ways in which racial stereotypes and discrimination accumulate across the distinct, but connected stages of housing exchange. I also want to reorganize the article a bit and adjust some of the grammatical choices (e.g. one section does not have correct capitalization). I've come up with 10 citations I would like to add to the content of this article--these are listed on my user page. Efloden ( talk) 01:46, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
