First soft ballad to have an electric guitar?

There is no citation for this. Is it really true? I know it is famous for being a soft ballad with a guitar solo. I know it is unusual for the Carpenters to have such a guitar solo, but there may well have been other bands that have done that.

How about The Beatles 'Something'?
