This article was started based on the article for the
317th Airlift Wing, which included information for both that wing and this group - distinct units with different accomplishments. When creating redirects to this article from the unit's previous names, I found no link for
317th Tactical Airlift Group, while
317th Transport Group unremarkably redirected to the wing article, but was surprised to see that, rather than a redirect, there was an article for the
317th Troop Carrier Group, a 60 year old name for this unit, although that article echoed the information in the wing article. This article was not linked to either of the more recent names of the unit. The articles should be merged.
This page is the most current name of the unit and is the appropriate location per
WP:MILMOS#UNITNAME. It is the official name and is the last name used by the unit.
There is not problem with article length that would call for splitting the article.
The 317th Troop Carrier Group article is unreferenced.
The 317th Troop Carrier Group article contains numerous errors (for example, that the unit was redesignated "317th Troop Carrier Group" on 15 September 1978 -- wrong name and wrong date). Needless to say, it also contains omissions. --
