These pages should be merged per WP:MILMOS#UNITNAME, which states that an article about a unit, formation, or base should be placed at "Name (optional disambiguator)". The name should generally be the official name used by the armed forces to which the unit or base belongs. When a unit or base has had multiple names over the course of its existence, the title should y be the last name used. No exception applies, the subject is not clearly more commonly known a previous names, nor would the merged article be excessively long. -- Lineagegeek ( talk) 23:03, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
The following long lists of commanding officers were removed from the two articles merged. There is no showing of notability for these officers, and lists of commanders at this level are not usual, difficult to maintain, and add little to the article.
The first Commander of the operational squadron was Col Robert Miller, of Albion, Illinois, former Commander of the 94th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. [2] Colonel Miller retired in August 1965.
The initial cadre of the squadron, trained at Project Space Track in Massachusetts, was: [3] [4]
Lt Col William H. Gibson (primary duty Director, SPADATS [5])
Lt Col Dalton F. Newton (primary duty Chief, SPADATS Operations Division, also Director, Spacetrack Center and later Director, SPADATS) [6] [7]
Maj James L. Rynning (Administrative Officer [8])
Capt William P. Bingham (primary duty Space Surveillance Officer [5])
Capt Frederick Carl Eaton (primary duty Chief, Orbital Analysis) [9]
Capt Orville L. Greynolds
Capt James W. Head
Capt Billy M. Jackson
Capt Thomas C. Marsters (primary duty Chief, SPADATS Control Center [5])
Capt Donald D. McComb
1st Lt Eric B. Nelson (primary duty Analyst for Intelligence, [5] the first officer in that duty assignment). As such, Lt Nelson was responsible for computing the orbits of all new Soviet launches and for liaison with the Space Intelligence Division, NORAD J-2, located on the top two floors of the same building.
