It's true that the full rigor of Oceania's totalitarian system in Orwell's novel is somewhat relaxed after the death of Big Brother, but it's difficult to describe the book as truly "optimistic", since the resulting system is still rather repressive, and the progression of the narrator's footnotes throughout the book reveals that the situation in Eurasia is not too satisfactory either... Mere the exixtence of the novel should be mentioned in Wikipedia, for all who want to have a sequel to 1984! -- 80.147.195.18 ( talk) 14:07, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
I've added a critic's opinion that the novel basically predicted glasnost and perestroika, which seems notable enough to remove the "may not meet notability standard" flag. So I will now remove that flag. -- grant ( talk) 17:34, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
