Again, the use of the word pogrom implies the focus of the attack was on a single ethnic group. I have not seen a source which substantiates this.

Wikipedia does not care about the personal opinions of Wikipedia editors regarding what events should be described as, but rather on the views of
reliablesecondary sources.

I looked at this again and can't find any detailed WP:RS which describe the event and calls it a pogrom. However here are a selection of sources which show that "Druze attack" is the most common name:
Ben-Zvi, I. “Events in Safed from the Lootings of 1834 to the Druze Attacks in 1838.” Sefunot 7 (1964), pp. 277–322
Vivian David Lipman, Sir Moses Montefiore: a symposium, Oxford Centre for Postgraduate Hebrew Studies, Jewish Historical Society of England, 1982, pp. 33: "The revolt of the fellaheen of 1834, the earthquake of 1837 (in which more than 2000 Jews in Safed lost their lives) and the Druze attack of 1838 all took their toll on the communities. "
Norman A. Stillman, The Jews of Arab Lands: A History and Source Book, Page 342, "A German Orientalist in Caught in an Attack Upon the Jews of Safed (1838)"
Haim Blanc, Studies in North Palestinian Arabic, 1953, Page 9: "Later, with 'Ibrahim Pasha's attempt to disarm the Druzes, there are accounts of their attacks against the Jews in Safed (1838), but here again it is not clear whether they were local or foreign Druzes."
Elia Zureik, The Palestinians in Israel, 1979, Page 32, "Though there were sporadic attacks against Jews in Palestine as early as the 1830s, the situation was far from being clear-cut. For example, during the Safed insurrection in 1838, in which Druze rebels rose against Turkish rule, and - in the course of the uprising - attacked Jews of Safed and even extorted money from them"
I'll leave the tag for now to give others a chance to comment.

It seems this could even be merged into the Druze revolt article. Most of this article is background, with only a few lines about the attack itself. Those lines could just be a subsection in the revolt article. As it is now, it just seems to be a victimisation piece with little notability separately from the revolt.

It also seems that it is only mentioned in passing by sources, when the revolt itself is described, is that correct? If so, that is even more incentive to merge.

Agree with the title "Druze attack on Safed", however strongly against merging. The article is highly supported by numerous Hebrew sources, the problem is only a lesser number of English sources.

Of course it is, as I said, Hebrew articles focus on this incident alone to victimise Jews, but for the rest of the world, this incident is only a tiny part of of the overall topic, 1838 Druze revolt. The topic of this article only amounts to one paragraph (the rest is duplicate background info), and for that reason, it is redundant and should be merged. The purpose of keeping the article seperate is simply to say "see, Arabs killed Jews".
FunkMonk (

I think it should be renamed to "1838 Druze attack on the Jews of Safed".

How is this not a pogrom? Thank you for clarification.
