==Early Life==

Raman Kalimuthu Murugesu was born in a poverty-stricken houshold on the 26th of October, 1933. Since his family was so poor, he had to begin working as a labourer in the fields at the tender age of 12. It was at this time in his tiring life that he was presented with a book of [[mantras]] for Lord [[Ganesha]], given to him by a [[Mahatma]]. Swami started to chant regularly.

==The Harder Times==

When Swami got older, he worked in a hotel, being a waiter and polishing shoes. At night, he slept in a railway station. He had no clean clothes. He frequently begged for food from passers-by and ate it, even if it was meat. He was unable to wash his hands after consuming meals, so he had to wipe them in his hair, making it dirty and greasy. Despite these difficulties, Swami tried his best to behave in a dignified manner.

==Experiences==

Once, Swami's Guru requested him to go to the nearest town to buy the ashram supplies. The nearest town was a mile away. Swami was given a piece of copper. When he came to a certain jungle, he recalled what his Guru had told him and recited a mantra. He was standing a few metres away from the town with a piece of gold. He bought the things and repeated the process.

Another day, Swami was in the jungle with one of his friends when a tiger jumped in front of them, blocking their path. The two thought of their Guru and a deer stood in front of the tiger, allowing them to pass.

One day, eighteen advanced [[Rishis]] appeared in front of Swami and his Guru. They taught Swami secrets they knew he would not abuse.

==Creation of the Sri Lankatheeswara temple==

Swami created the Sri Lankatheeswara temple in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. He had an ashram next to the temple and he lived just next to the ashram. There was also a block of sandy steps leading up to a big hall, where Swami conducted [[yagnas]] and did rituals for [[Poya]] day. In the temple, there was a big [[Shivalingam]], that would have an [[abishekam]] every month. Directly opposite was a black statue of the Goddess [[Gayathri]].

==Disciples==

Many flocked to the ashram and became Swami's disciples. One of them was Swami Shankarananda.

==Mahasamadhi==

Swami got seriously ill in 2007, and went to India for treatment. Sadly, he died on the 24th of September 2007. His samadhi is in the Gayathri Mandir of the Sri Lankatheeswara temple. However, the temple is still running.
