Sulaiman Bek ( Arabic: سليمان بيك), also spelled as Sulayman Beg [1] [2] ( Iraqi Turkmen: سلیمان بیگ, romanized: Süleyman Beg [3]) is a town in Saladin Governorate, Iraq, located some 170 km (105 mi) north of Baghdad. [4] It has a Sunni Arab majority and a population of around 30,000. [5] There also is a Turkmen minority in the town. [6] [7] [8]
Among the tribes present in the town are the Al-Nuaim, Jubur, Bani Az, Albu Salih, Albu Sabah and Al-Bayat tribes. The village of Hafriya is situated nearby. [9] [10] The al-Bayat tribe speaks Iraqi Arabic and Iraqi Turkmen. [11] [9]
