Sport climbing is a nascent sport in India. It is governed by the recently-formed Federation of Indian Sport Climbing, and was initially administered by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation. [1] In 2024, Rajmohan Pillai and Sushil Malik were elected the president and vice-president of the SCFI. [2] [3]
Bangalore is a hub of sport climbing in India. [4] The Nehru Institute of Mountaineering conducts short term courses in sport climbing. [5]
Deepu Mallesh at rank 81 is the highest ranked Indian sport climber, and the holder of the record in speed climbing. [6] Prateeksha Arun, the winner of national titles, took part in the 2023 Asian Games. [7] Shivani Charak has represented the country at the Asian Youth Games and the Asian Games.
