This is an extremely POV interpretation of the story. As noted on Talk page, it misleads as to content of the reference. Perhaps there should be an 'Interpretations' section quoting various sources?

→Timeline: It is blatantly POV to claim that the proposed policy was more "explicit" than the existing one, to describe it as a shift towards social conservatism, and to claim or imply that it was "seen to be a factor" in the defections.
