The general civil code of the Austrian Empire stipulated citizenship based on the municipality, there was no Hungarian or Austrian citizenship until the dual Monarchry in 1867. He was from an ethnic German family.

He was born an austro-hungarian and held that citizenship until its dissolution in September 1919 at Saint Germain-en-Laye. This is not up for discussion and should be reflected along with his US and possible Polish citizenship. He also was a native german speaker of Lemberg~~~~

talk) Austrian Poland was not an administrative name for the region it was the crown lands of Galicia and Lodomeria within the Austrian Empire. The article has been changed to reflect this. Also the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth was partitioned 3 times, not Poland which was created when it fought for its independence after ww1. Nationality is tricky see talk.Tag: Undo
