Undid Jan 31 revision of "Seldom Forever", which replaced "purging" with "leaving". The Newsweek reference says the Nazis "drove out" academics and has a hyperlink to an article saying it was a "purge" of academics, and the Sydney Morning Herald reference says "purging of academics".

→Life: Fixed year of invitation from 2021 to 2020. An official letter on the matter from MIT, at https://orgchart.mit.edu/node/6/letters_to_community/important-update-re-eaps, explains that he was invited to give the lecture in "early 2020".

David Eppstein (
talk), which reverted my previous edit. I would argue that reverting my edit violated WP:ROWN ("revert only when necessary"). Surely MIT's stated rationale for cancelling the Carlson lecture is relevant here, and the Nazi reference was a paraphrase of what was written in the Inside Higher Ed. article (ref. 6), which said Prof Abbot "liken academic wokeism to Nazism".Tags: UndoReverted
