talk) The discriminant in the original version (b^2-4c) refers to the incorrect coefficients if the form is t^2 + at + b (it should be (a^2 - 4b in that case)! For the discriminant to be (b^2-4ac) the characteristic equation must be at^2 + bt + c. It is also more intuitive because it is the standard form of the quadratic equation.Tag: Undo
