French Republican calendar
The ancient Egyptian calendar was a 'wandering calendar' (because it had no leap year), and definitely did not start at solstice. Also the later Alexandrian/Coptic calendar, which did have a leap year, did not start at solstice.

Egyptian calendar
I though the equating of Akhet with Sept-January (etc) was confusing, as later it is rightly said that Akhet wanders through the solar year. So hence here the clearer seperation between natural seasons and calendar seasons.
