The replacement recognizes that a controversy exists but maintains that "significant backlash" is an opinion, not fact. The replacement is based based on statements authorized by Kostabi himself. The gossip column, Page Six of the New York Post is widely regarded as tabloid journalism. There exists no proof tape that Kostabi retracted his apology and Kostabi himself to this day says he never retracted it, saying the libellous quote was invented by Page Six. Vanity Fair is primarily focused on sensationalizing gossip and scandal. "Significant backlash" is an opinion.
