I have eliminated the statement that historically, electric-drive ships like USS Langley used DC motors. This is not correct. Most turbo-electric ships, including Langley, had AC drive. One of many sources is Cdr. S. M. Robinson USN, "Electric Ship Propulsion." (In the steam era, the USN was the primary naval user of turbo-electric propulsion).

I removed the statement that "nuclear submarines use a steam turbine-electric drive." A few do, but most nuclear submarines (including Royal Navy submarines) have a geared-turbine drive.
