Foreign function interface
FFIs are not "usually" from interpreted languages to other languages (or, at least, this would need a reference). A C interface to Python/JS is just as well an FFI. Perhaps it is more accurate to say that most FFIs are "to" compiled code, in particular following standard calling conventions (because many languages need to interface with standard C libraries). But if most FFIs are "from" interpreted code, that mostly reflects the simple fact that most languages are nowadays interpreted/JITted.
