I edited this passage to be consistent in its tense; the sentence was also a run-on, and I have broken it up into more manageable pieces. I have added a comma in accordance with the correct American usage(I may say, at least, that mine is "the Queen's American English." I do not pretend to be entirely unbiased; Wikipedia leaders must pretend that way, and settle between us, if there is an argument).
