One doesn't "select" a shallow DoF. One "seeks to achieve" it. DoF, whether shallow or deep, is not a "selectable" item or setting.

Edited back to reintroduce the fact that bokeh ("blur", whether pleasant or not) occurs everywhere in a photograph, both highlight and lowlight areas. Also re-inserted source.
