It seems to be the general attitude among a majority of players, unless some factor of the roguelike (incompleteness, frequent crashes, purpose, etc) encourage or necessitate savescumming.

It's not just "many" roguelikes being ASCII-based, it's most of them. Early ones were almost all ASCII. That's starting to change in the newest ones, so edited to reflect.
