I'm deleting tbe more speculative part of the statement. Nonetheless the synopsis provided in Book(s) of Tang is almost certainly hyperbole and 资治通鉴 the chronicle gives a slightlg less oversimplified pictt.

talk) Which i had reasoned in the Feb 25th edit: the sourced chronicle mentioned few dates with rough estimation of the remaining military and civilian population, and the date where cannibalism began. It's very unlikely that 600 soldiers could have eaten all 30,000 civilians.Tag: Undo

first source: When Nan Jiyun's reinforcement arrived in August, the garrison (then only 600 left) were already telling him that they had run out of food reserves for more than a month. second source: The killing concubine for food (and morale) happened in the beginning of October. Given that the fall was on October 9th, it'd be more reasonable to infer that Cannibalism started way earlier between civilians since 600 garrison killing and eating 30000 civilians within 10 days doesn't sound very lTag: Reverted
