It is more appropriate to call him a Ukrainian due to his national significance. Also, whoever said that the term "Ukraine/Ukrainians" did not exist back then are mentally challenged. Historical evidence showed that it existed before the word "Russia" was even a thing. For instance, Hetman Petro Sahaidachny said in a letter to the King of Poland in 1622: "Ukraine, our own ancestral homeland.
