[2] It is commonly known as the Smokies snowfly and is found in the Eastern United States, [3] [4] including North Carolina, [5] Tennessee, [6] and Virginia. [7] It is found in the Great Smoky Mountains, [8] and its species name is Latin for "smoky." [9]
It is a small, winged insect found at fast, rocky streams at high elevations. [10] It was first described by Ross in 1964. [11]
