Serednie ( Ukrainian: Середнє; Hungarian: Szerednye; Slovak: Seredné; Russian: Среднее) is a rural settlement in Uzhhorod Raion, Zakarpattia Oblast, western Ukraine. [3] The town's population was 3,505 as of the 2001 Ukrainian Census. [3] Current population: 4,361 (2022 estimate). The village houses the remains of a Romanesque castle. [4] The village itself was first mentioned in the 14th century, [5] although archaeologists have dated the castle back to the 12th century. [6] The castle is said to have been built by the Knights Templar. [6] [7] [8]
Until 26 January 2024, Serednie was designated urban-type settlement. On this day, a new law entered into force which abolished this status, and Serednie became a rural settlement. [9]
