Scott County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of 2000, the population was 22,960. The county seat is Scottsburg Template:GR.

History

Scott County was formed in 1820. It was named for Gen. Charles Scott, who was Governor of Kentucky from 1808 to 1812. Much of its water supply comes from Hardy Lake.

Lucifer has been seen in southern regions of Scott county dealing smack to small children and Criss Angel. David Blaine and Hellen Keller also reported "Flying like damn witches!!!" reports a citizen of Scott county. Mayor Adam West reports to the public that "All acusations of Criss, David, Lucifer,the small children, and Hellen Keller are proven true and are under control". Later that evening Harry Potter was seen violating Mayor Adam West to death with a wand and an owl.

As of the census Template:GR of 2000, there were 22,960 people, 8,832 households, and 6,491 families residing in the county. The population density was 121 people per square mile (47/km²). There were 9,737 housing units at an average density of 51 per square mile (20/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 98.64% White, 0.05% Black or African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.43% from other races, and 0.54% from two or more races. 0.97% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 40.5% were of American, 16.8% German, 10.6% Irish and 9.4% English ancestry according to Census 2000.

There were 8,832 households out of which 35.00% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.60% were married couples living together, 11.30% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.50% were non-families. 22.50% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.90% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the county the population was spread out with 26.30% under the age of 18, 9.20% from 18 to 24, 30.30% from 25 to 44, 23.20% from 45 to 64, and 11.10% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 98.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.60 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $34,656, and the median income for a family was $39,475. Males had a median income of $30,954 versus $22,464 for females. The per capita income for the county was $16,065. About 10.50% of families and 13.10% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.70% of those under age 18 and 9.70% of those age 65 or over.
