He was born on 26 August 1959 at Samatala village in Tarikere Taluk in Chikkamagaluru district in Karnataka state, India. He completed his BA with a university First rank. He bagged seven gold medals for the M.A. in Kannada Literature from Mysore University.[ citation needed]
