Qazi Muhammad Asad Khan ( Urdu: قاضی محمد اسد خان ; born 6 October 1965) is a Pakistani politician and former Minister of Higher Education, Archives, and Libraries for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.[ citation needed] He served as a Member of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 2002 to 2013. His wife, Qudisa Lodhi, was a member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab from 2002 to 2007. [4]

Political career

Qazi Muhammad Asad Khan, son of Qazi Muhammad Asif Khan, represented PK-50 Haripur-II in the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 2002 to 2013, as a member of the Awami National Party (ANP). During his tenure, he served as the Minister for Higher Education, Archives, and Libraries. [5] [6]

He was re-elected to the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Constituency PK-50 (Haripur-II) in 2008 Pakistani general election. [7] Ethnically is a Golrra Awan whose family is settled in Sikanderpur Haripur of Hazara Division in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.[ citation needed]

He Joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 1996 and was appointed President of the Insaf Youth Federation District Haripur in 1997. Later became District President of PTI Haripur.[ citation needed]

Contested the election for Nazim Union Council Sikanderpur in May 2001 but lost to his cousin by 341 votes securing 1696 votes. [8] Then took part in the successful campaign of Dr Raja Amir Zaman in the election for District Nazim (Mayor) Haripur in August 2001 against Omar Ayub Khan.

In August 2002 he quit the PTI and submitted his nomination forms as an independent candidate for election to the Provincial Assembly of the then N-W.F.P. in the general elections from the Constituency PF-50 Haripur II. [9] However, upon the request of Dr Raja Amir Zaman and some other associates he withdrew his nomination forms as independent and submitted a new set as candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League (Q). On October 10 2002 he won against an experienced PML (N) candidate securing 22340 votes winning by 6284 votes. [10] [11]

He won again in 2008 as an independent securing 25057 votes. [12] [13] He joined the nationalist Awami National Party and was inducted into the cabinet of Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti as Minister for Higher Education, Archives and Libraries in April 2008. [14] [15]
