Sathyapriya Bhavani Shankar (born 31 December 1989) known professionally as Priya Bhavani Shankar, [a] is an Indian actress and former television presenter who primarily appears in Tamil films and in addition to few Telugu films. [2] [3]
Priya made her acting debut with the television show Kalyanam Mudhal Kadhal Varai (2014-2016), which won her the Vijay Television Award for Best Find of the Year. She started her film career with the commercially successful Tamil film Meyaadha Maan (2017). [4] She has since appeared in successful films such as Kadaikutty Singam (2018), Monster (2019), Mafia: Chapter 1, Yaanai (2022), Thiruchitrambalam (2022) and Pathu Thala (2023). For Kadaikutty Singam, she received Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress – Tamil nomination. [5]
Priya first gained recognition as a television news presenter at the Tamil news channel Puthiya Thalaimurai. [6] She also worked as a serial actress in Star Vijay Television's Kalyanam Mudhal Kadhal Varai. [2] In 2017, she made her film debut with Meyaadha Maan opposite Vaibhav Reddy, for which she was nominated for a SIIMA Award for Best Female Debutant. [7]
The following year, Priya appeared in Kadaikutty Singam alongside Karthi. [8] In 2019, she starred in Monster alongside S. J. Suryah. [9] In 2020 she was seen in Mafia: Chapter 1. [10] She also appeared in the Amazon Prime web series Time Enna Boss!?. [11] In 2021, she starred in the multi-starrer Kalathil Sandhippom alongside Jiiva and Arulnithi, Kasada Thapara alongside Sundeep Kishan, and Oh Manapenne! alongside Harish Kalyan.
As of 2022, her projects include Yaanai alongside Arun Vijay, Kuruthi Aattam opposite Atharvaa, Bommai with S. J. Suryah for the second time, and Hostel opposite Ashok Selvan. [12] [13] She is also starring in Indian 2 which is set to release in 2024. [14]
