Before posting on this page, please observe these basic guidelines so that discussion stays focused in the appropriate areas. Since each portal sub page has its own talk page and since these may not be immediately obvious to the user, I've created a talk map below in order to point all talk to correct locations.
This talk page is devoted to discussing portal box arrangement, what boxes should or should not appear, and what page formatting should apply. Please keep discussion on this page to that subject matter, or your talk may be moved to the correct page by portal maintainers.
If your post pertains to any of the content of any of the boxes, take that discussion to the portal talk listed below.
If your talk isn't related to any of the above, feel free to post boldly here. Welcome to this talk page and this portal. Let's try to fight out our controversies here (on these talk pages) so they don't have to read them over there (on the portal pages). 17:29, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
I noticed that in the "Requested articles" section there is a request for an article on "Mexican-Americans in the Civil War". I would like to point out that there is no need for such an article since there is already an article titled Hispanics in the American Civil War which covers not only Mexican Americans, but other Hispanic groups who participated in said conflict as well. The article on question can be expanded. Tony the Marine ( talk) 16:15, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
When I was reading the article a sentence read "In many ways, the conflict's central issues – the enslavement of African-Americans, the role of constitutional federal government, and the rights of states – are still not completely resolved." Is it just me or did the sentence say that there is debate over whether African-Americans should be enslaved? We know that blacks are equal to whites, but this sounds racist, so I'm removing the part about African-Americans. McBenjamin ( talk) 05:04, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
I'm not convinced about using CURRENTHOUR for portal subpages. By default, the software caches the rendered pages and won't rebuild the page every hour - a reader will see the article for whatever the hour was when the portal page was last cached. The "Show new selections" link will rebuild the page, so that the reader will see the article for the current hour. But after that, the reader is stuck - clicking "Show new selections" again won't show another article until CURRENTHOUR changes. -- John of Reading ( talk) 07:49, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals is back!
The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018.
Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, and design the portals of the future.
As of April 29th, membership is at 56 editors, and growing.
There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for each component of portals.
Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.
And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.
