Pierre-André Dumas (born September 26, 1962 in Saint-Jean-du-Sud) is a Haitian clergyman and bishop for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Anse-à-Veau and Miragoâne. He was ordained in 1991. He was appointed bishop in 2008. [1]
On 18 February the bishop was seriously wounded in an explosion in Port-au-Prince. The reasons for the explosion are unclear, though police suspected an accident caused by a gas leak. Speaking to Aid to the Church in Need, Archbishop Max Leroy Mesidor of Port-au-Prince, and President of the Bishop Conference in Haiti, said: “It is still uncertain whether the explosion was caused by a gas leak or a criminal act. The police are investigating, but they believe it seems to be a gas explosion. Bishop Dumas underwent surgery yesterday. The blast was strong and caused serious burns to Monsignor Dumas’ face, arms, and legs”. [2]
