The Passacaglia for orchestra, Opus 1, from 1908, is the first published composition of twentieth century Austrian composer Anton Webern. [1] It is based on the passacaglias of 17th century music, in which the bass part is a constantly repeating pattern a few bars long, and the upper parts are a set of variations each of which incorporates that bass part. [2]
