Omega Pi Lambda Sorority, Inc. (ΩΠΛ) is an Latine-interest, community service-based Greek-lettered sorority founded University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on March 14, 2023.

History

Omega Pi Lambda Sorority, Inc. was founded on March 14, 2023, at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. It was created because of the lack of Latine-interest Greek organizations on campus. The sorority's founding line is known as Xochiquetzal. Its nine Founding Mothers are:

  • Jaquelynn Fernandez
  • Delany Aleman Silva
  • Catalina Cobos
  • Anna Pineda-Osorio
  • Sabrina Morales
  • Itzuri Contreras
  • Aurora Balliett
  • Yadira Foulker
  • Marijke Arreola

The founder's vision was" to create a home for cis and transgender women as well as fem presenting non binary individuals where they are safe to be themselves, serve the community, and learn about Latin American cultures". The sorority is strongly opposed to hazing.

Symbols

The Omega Pi Lambda motto is Siempre Que Haya Amor, Venceremos! or "As long as there is love, we will overcome!”. The sorority's pillars are Excellence, Love, Service and Scholarship. Its colors are white, pink, red, and black. Its flower is the white dahilia. Its jewels are white moonstone, rose quartz, red onyx, and black fire opal. Its macot is Culpeo.

Membership

Omega Pi Lambda is open to cis women, transgendered women, and non-binary individuals. Although the organization was founded as a Latine-interest organization, it is open to all backgrounds.

The Garden is the official interest group of Omega Pi Lambda and educates individuals about the sorority, promotes a commitment to service and academic excellence, and cultivates meaningful relationships among members and prospective members.

Philanthropy

Omega Pi Lambda Sorority, Inc. has two philanthropies: Save the Children and National Alliance on Mental Illness.
