Parliamentary elections will be held in Kosovo no later than 2025. If the full four year term of the incumbent Assembly is completed, the election will be held on a Sunday and not earlier than 60 days and no later than 30 days before the end of the mandate. [1]
In the 2021 elections Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (LVV) won 58 seats. [2] They created a coalition with minority parties, including the Serb List, to form a Government. [3]
The Constitution and the Law on General Elections provide that parliamentary elections must be held on a Sunday no earlier than 60 days and no later than 30 days before the end of the four-year mandate of the Assembly, unless it is dissolved earlier. [4] The 8th and current Legislature of the Assembly was constituted on 22 March 2021. Therefore, the next election has to take place on one of the following possible dates:
The exact date will be determined by the president no earlier than 6 months and no later than 4 months before the date of the election. Parliamentary elections can be held earlier under four scenarios described by the constitution.
In all cases, parliamentary elections would have to take place on a Sunday no earlier than 30 days and no later than 45 days after the dissolution. [5]
The 120 members of the Assembly of Kosovo are elected by open list proportional representation, with 20 seats reserved for national minorities. [6] An electoral threshold of 5% is in place for non-minority parties. Seats are allocated using the Webster/Sainte-Laguë method. [7] To form a government, a party or coalition must have a majority of 61 MPs out of 120 seats in the Assembly of Kosovo.
