Nawzia Yasmin is a Bangladeshi academic, professor, and physician. She serves as the acting Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the State University of Bangladesh. [1] [2] [3] She is the President of the Bangladesh Tobacco Control Research Network. [4] She is also the chairperson of the State University of Bangladesh. [5]

Early life

Yasmin completed her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1993 at the Dhaka Medical College. [1] She completed her Master of Public Health in 2000 at the University of Sydney. [1] In 2001, she completed a certificate course in Ultrasonography at the Bangladesh Institute of Medical and Dental Technology. [1]

Career

Yasmin joined the Department of Public Health at the State University of Bangladesh in 2003. [1]

In 2008, Yasmin was appointed editor of the SUB Journal of Public Health. [1] Yasmin has supervised more than 600 graduate thesis. [1] She is a member of the Bangladesh Medical Association, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council and Public Health Association of Bangladesh. [1] She is the president of the Bangladesh Tobacco Control Research Network. [1]

Yasmin, Dean of the School of Health Sciences at State University of Bangladesh, signed a pledge in 2017 to reject funding from the Foundation for a Smoke-Free World, which is funded by Philip Morris International, along with University administrators from around the world. [6] Yasmin was the Proctor of the State University of Bangladesh in 2019. [7]

In January 2022, Yasmin was appointed the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the State University of Bangladesh by President Mohmmad Abdul Hamid. [8] [9] She was the dean of the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and head of the Department of Public Health at the State University of Bangladesh. [10] She is also the Chairperson of the State University of Bangladesh. [11] She appointed Dr Md Hassan Kawsar as the treasurer of the State University of Bangladesh. [12]

Yasmin is currently pursuing her PhD in Public Health at Jahangirnagar University. [1]
