Muzaffar Hanfi (born Mohammad Abul Muzaffar; April 1, 1936 – October 10, 2020) was an Indian Urdu Poet, critic, writer from Madhya Pradesh. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Muzaffar was born on 1 April 1936 in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. [5] He completed his education from Madhya Pradesh. His academic qualifications include B.A., M.A, L.L.B, Ph.D., Aligarh Muslim University, Barkatullah University Bhopal. [6]
Muzaffar began his career in the Forest Department of Madhya Pradesh as a Lecturer in the Urdu Department. [7] Later, he joined the faculty of Urdu at Jamia Millia Islamia as a Lecturer and retired as the Head of the Urdu Department in 2001. [8] He was the Vice President of Indian Universities Urdu Teachers Association. [9]
He has received many awards from the state academies and Institutions of National Importance. [10]
Muzaffar written and edited over 80 books in the Urdu language. [11]

The International Urdu Movement (IURM), a non-profit organization based in India that works to promote the language of Urdu, has decided to establish a Global Prize in the name of the Muzaffar Hanfi. The Prize will be awarded to an individual in the field of Urdu literature. [15]
In the year 2023, a documentary was made by Aqdas Sami, an alumnus of Jamia Millia Islamia, on Muzaffar Hanfi, named “Muzaffar Ke Naam.” [16] This film has also been selected at ISFFA and Madras Independent Film Festival (MIFF). [17]
