Mishael Powell is an American football safety who will play for the Miami Hurricanes. He previously played for the Washington Huskies.
Powell was born in Seattle, Washington where he attended high school at O'Dea. Coming out of high school, Powell held offers from Ivy League schools such as Columbia, Yale, and Georgetown, but Powell decided to walk on to play college football for the Washington Huskies. [1] [2]
In Powell's first season in 2019, he would redshirt and then in 2020, he would not appear in any games. [3] In Powell's first career start in 2021 against California, he recorded six tackles and a forced fumble. [4] Powell finished his first season in 2021 with 11 tackles, three pass deflections, and a forced fumble. [5] After the conclusion of the 2021 season, Powell was put on scholarship in early 2022. [6] In 2022, Powell notched 43 tackles with one and a half being for a loss. [7] Powell recorded his first career interception in week three of the 2023 season in a win over Michigan State. [8] In week eight, Powell intercepeted a pass and returned it 89 yards for a touchdown as he helped the Huskies survive Arizona State. [9] For his performance versus Arizona State, Powell was named the Pac-12 defensive player of the week. [10]
On January 12, 2024, Powell announced that he would be entering the transfer portal. [11]
On January 17, 2024, Powell announced that he would be transferring to Miami (FL). [12]
