Milden is a village and civil parish in the Babergh district, in Suffolk, England. Located around 4+12 miles from Sudbury. In 2021 the parish had a population of 118. [1] The parish borders Brent Eleigh, Edwardstone, Groton, Lindsey, Little Waldingfield and Monks Eleigh. [2] There are 18 listed buildings in Milden. [3] St Peter's Church is a Grade I listed building. [4]

The parish contains the Milden Thicks SSSI and the remains of Milden Castle.

History

The name "Milden" means 'Melda's people' or 'orach place'. [5] Milden was recorded in the Domesday Book as Mellinga. [6]

Milden was in the Babergh hundred, from 1894 until 1974 it was in Cosford Rural District in the administrative county of West Suffolk. [7] In 1974 it became part of Babergh non-metropolitan district in the non-metropolitan county of Suffolk.
