Mary Loi Yves Kipte Ricalde (born May 27, 2002), known professionally as Maloi ( /məˈlɔɪ/), is a Filipino singer under Star Music. She is one of the main vocalists of the Filipino girl group Bini. [2]
Mary Loi Yves Ricalde was born in Lemery, Batangas, Philippines to a family of four siblings. Her family originally lived in Lemery but moved to General Trias, Cavite. [3] She attended Japan Philippine Institute of Technology in Bulacan as a scholar, where she graduated along with her co-member Colet in 2024. [4]
Maloi started singing when she was three years old. [5] During her school years, she participated in various extra-curricular activities, including swimming and badminton varsity teams, serving as a majorette, and joining the school chorale group. [6] She was a member of the group when it won three gold medals as the Philippines' representative to a choral competition in Malaysia in 2018. [3]
In 2018, Maloi auditioned for Star Hunt Academy (SHA) in Laguna. [7] She was one of 250 aspirants to undergo a five-day boot camp and was selected as a trainee in early 2019. Under SHA, Maloi developed her skills in singing and dancing under Filipino voice coaches Kitchy Molina and Anna Graham, and dance coaches Mickey Perz and Matthew Almodovar. She also trained under the intensive Korean training system with the help of MU Doctor Academy, where she learned Korean practices and disciplines in singing and dancing. [8]
Maloi joined her fellow trainees in performing at various ABS-CBN mall shows and other events across the country. She also appeared at the 2019 National Youth Commission's FitFil: Youth Against Drugs event as one of the youth ambassadors. The trainees were also invited to perform at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games thanksgiving celebration. [9]
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Maloi continued her training in quarantine along with her co-trainees inside Camp Star Hunt to ensure their safety. [8] On October 10, 2020, Maloi was one of the last eight members of the Star Hunt Academy Girl Trainees to graduate from the Academy and was officially announced as a member of an idol group. [10]
In November 2020, Maloi officially became a member of the Filipino girl group Bini, which released the pre-debut single " Da Coconut Nut". [11] On December 4, Maloi and her fellow Bini members signed an exclusive contract with Star Magic. [12]
During their pre-debut era, Maloi and her fellow Bini members performed "Da Coconut Nut" and other song and dance covers on various ABS-CBN shows, including It's Showtime, ASAP Natin 'To, and Magandang Buhay. [13]
The group officially debuted on June 11, 2021, with the release of their debut single " Born to Win" during the two-part event Bini: The Launch. [14]
In 2024, Maloi was cast in the music video of the song "Dilaw" (Yellow) by Maki. [15] [16]
