The president of Kazakhstan holds the highest authority in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Established under the Constitution of Kazakhstan, the president is the head of state and is directly elected by the people for a nonrenewable term of seven years. Alongside the prime minister, the president leads the executive branch of the Kazakh government and serves as the commander-in-chief of the Kazakh Armed Forces.
