Liang Eng Hwa ( Chinese: 连荣华; pinyin: Lián Rónghuá; born 1964) [1] is a Singaporean politician and banker. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he has been the Member of Parliament representing Bukit Panjang SMC since 2020 and previously the Zhenghua division of Holland–Bukit Timah GRC between 2006 and 2020. [2]
Liang attended Bukit Panjang English School and Anderson Secondary School [3] before graduating from Singapore Polytechnic in 1984 with a diploma in civil engineering. [4]
He subsequently went on to complete a Bachelor of Commerce with first class honours degree at the University of Melbourne. [3]
Liang was a managing director at DBS Bank and a board member of the Urban Redevelopment Authority from 2009 to 2018. [3]
Liang made his political debut in the 2006 general election when he contested in Holland–Bukit Timah GRC as part of a four-member PAP team and won by an uncontested walkover.
Liang retained his parliamentary seat at the 2011 general election, when his four-member PAP team contesting in Holland–Bukit Timah GRC won 60.08% of the vote against the Singapore Democratic Party. [5] [6]
He was also appointed Chair of the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for Finance, Trade & Industry in the 14th Parliament.
On 26 July 2023, it was revealed that Liang was diagnosed with early stage nose cancer. [7]
