Langtrees is Australia's largest bordello brand, with premises in Perth and Canberra. It is owned by Mary-Anne Kenworthy, Australia's most well-known madam. [1]
Perth's largest bordello is located at 71 Burswood Road in Burswood. It ceased operating for two days in May 2002 as US sailors wore out sex workers. [2] [3] In July 2011, two men smashed through the front door at about 12:30 am and demanded money from the till. [4]
The only licensed bar and bordello in Australia is located at 32 Grimwade Street in Mitchell, Canberra. [5] Marketed as an upmarket luxury bordello, [6] Kenworthy purchased it in 2014.
A premises was opened in Kalgoorlie in 2000, marketed as one of the only working brothel museums in the world. [7] In January 2007, Kalgoorlie's Hay Street brothel strip turned to tourism offering tours in a bid to keep alive, [8] but the premises ceased operating as a bordello in 2012. [9] After housing a restaurant, it was put onto the market in 2019. [10]
In December 2016, Langtrees bought out Darwin Escorts, which became known as Langtrees VIP Darwin and Chillout Lounge before being closed in 2022. [11]
She closed her Perth establishment for the final two days of a port visit by the United States Navy saying her workers were too tired to maintain a high standard of service.
The 16-bedroom property operated as Club 181 and Langtrees Kalgoorlie before closing as a working bordello in 2012. After being resurrected as a tapas restaurant, the property went on the market in July last year with an initial asking price of $1.5 million and is now set to be transformed into mine workers' accommodation.
Darwin CBD brothel Langtrees [...] forced to shut up shop due to insurance issues. [...] Insurers had refused to cover the body corporate while a brothel was in the building.
